2 Natural Home Fragrances For Spring
Spring is here, and with its longer days and gently rising temperatures come all the beautiful and evocative scents to be found in nature. Bringing these light and natural fragrances into the home feels energising and refreshing, and can't help but boost our mood.
Using organic essential oils and pantry items to make 'simmer pots' that release their fragrance as they are warmed on the stove is a simple and natural alternative to candles, incense or sprays. Add the chosen ingredients to a saucepan of water, bring to the boil and leave to simmer for half an hour or so. The steam will carry the fragrance throughout the house (so open doors and close windows). Afterwards, you can pour the mixture into a bowl to be left out for a few hours.
Feel free to experiment according to the oils, herbs, citrus fruits and spices that you love and have on hand.
Here are two blends that feel particularly springlike:
Geranium, lemon and camomile
Add a dozen drops of geranium essential oil, one chopped lemon (gently squeezed) and three of tablespoons of dried camomile flowers to about three glasses of water.
Eucalyptus, mandarin and rosemary
Add a dozen drops of eucalyptus essential oil, six drops of mandarin essential oil and a few sprigs of fresh rosemary to about three glasses of water.
